This is a 2013 Canadian Silver Pronghorn Antelope 1 oz .9999 Fine Wildlife Series round. The Pronghorn Antelope is the fifth in the Royal Canadian Mint’s Canadian Wildlife silver bullion coin series. It is a limited issue with a mintage of 1,000,000 coins. Like the standard 1 oz silver Canadian Maple Leaf, the coin contains 1 ounce of .9999 fine pure silver. As such, it has few rivals for pure silver content in the 1 oz round format.
The coins themselves are beautiful. On the obverse side, it features the familiar profile of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II surrounded by the inscriptions “Elizabeth II” and “5 Dollars 2013” along the top and bottom, respectively. As the inscription suggests, the coin’s denomination is 5 Dollars Canadian.
While the obverse side is stunning, the true beauty of this and all of the Wildlife series coins is on the reverse side of these reeded pieces of art. For on the back, the coin is graced by Emily S. Damstra’s depiction of the Pronghorn Antelope walking freely across an open range with the foothills in the mountain. The inscriptions “CANADA” above and “Fine Silver 1 OZ Argent Pur,” as well as the initials of the artist “ED” and “.9999” that surround the reverse side round out the features of this beautiful coin, which was designed by Susan Blunt.
These beautiful coins make great gifts and are a great way to celebrate the natural treasures of the northern territories.
